The Women’s Health/Pelvic Rehabilitation Clinical Specialist conducts comprehensive patient examinations and selects the appropriate outcome measures to identify rehabilitation problems and establish treatment goals utilizing current evidence based physical therapy practice. The Clinical Specialist markets and receives direct consults for Women’s Health/Pelvic Rehabilitation services from Primary Care, Specialty Clinics, and PM&RS as well as associated VA partners in the VISN.

Pelvic floor muscle training is recommended for all pregnant women in the 20-36th week of pregnancy. Research has shown that women who participate in pelvic floor muscle training during pregnancy have a reduced risk of prolonged second stage labor, less back and pelvic pain and urinary incontinence following delivery.
