You are your own economy

Most of us have been raised to believe that the economy is something only experts can “fix.” Witness large segments of the US population walking around in terror, feeling scared, feeling depressed, wondering how and when our president and chief treasury officer will rescue us.

I also used to believe that I had no control over the economy.

Then I realized that I am my own economy. That the economy is not out there, it is inside me. It’s how I feel about myself and the greatness I have to offer.

To make your own economy you need to search within yourself for the greatness that was put on the planet to share, the practical knowledge that others crave. Once you can discover and release that greatness, you will have everything you need to make your own economy.

I like finding its own economy in the journey that Dorothy takes in “The Wizard of Oz.” Dorothy spends most of her “her story” looking outside of herself for a way home. She believes that she is powerless, that only others have the power to bring her back to Kansas. She spends a lot of time hanging out with other people who also feel powerless. Then, towards the end of the film, when Dorothy thinks she has lost her last way home, she asks Glinda, the good witch of the north, for help. glinda says:

“You don’t need help anymore. You’ve always had the power to go back to Kansas.”

“Have?” Dorothy says.

“Then why didn’t you tell him before?” demands the scarecrow.

“Because she wouldn’t have believed me. She had to learn it herself.”

It is the same with the economy. You have to learn for yourself that you have always had the power to make your own economy. You have to find your inner ruby business slippers and click on them three times.
