Changes to the content weight of the MBLEx exam certification

As of July 1, 2014, the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) has placed more emphasis on the MBLEx exam focusing on ethics and professional guidelines, anatomy and physiology, followed by assessment and application. There have been slight changes to the increases and decreases in the composition and weight breakdown of the content of the MBLEx. The percentages and questions are as follows:

  • Content of the MBLEx exam:
  • 16 to 18 questions about client assessment, reassessment, and treatment plans. This will consist of 17% of the exam.

  • 13 to 16 questions about Benefits and Physiological Effects of the Techniques. This will consist of 14% of the exam.

  • 12 to 15 questions about Pathology with Contraindications, areas of Precaution and Special Population. This will consist of 13% of the exam.

  • From 4 to 6 questions about Massage Modalities and Bodywork/Culture and History. This will consist of 5% of the exam.

  • 14 to 17 questions about Ethics, Limits, Laws and Regulations. This will consist of 15% of the exam.

  • 12 to 15 questions on Guidelines for Professional Practice. This will consist of 13% of the exam.

  • 10 to 12 questions about Kinesiology. This will consist of 11% of the exam

  • .1 to 13 questions of Anatomy and Physiology. This will consist of 12% of the exam.

While the MBLEx content for Anatomy and Physiology, Physiological Benefits and Effects of Soft Tissue Manipulating Techniques is reduced to approximately 3%, Ethics, Limits, Laws, Regulations, Guidelines for Professional Practice to approximately 3%. When preparing to become MBLEx certified, we recommend that you prepare and study accordingly.

With a set of one hundred questions, the MBLEx exam has a two-hour time limit. Those who prepare for the exam rarely have problems on the day of the exam. Get a good night’s sleep the night before and get extra rest on the day of the test. Implementing an online study guide or taking practice tests can also be a great advantage. Knowing in advance what to study gives you a huge advantage in knowing the answer along with the added confidence which really helps. Being prepared always feels good and gives you the best possible chance to get the best desired outcome. You want to feel after you have answered the last question that you have passed your certification. Studying beforehand using the right tools will allow you to achieve just that. The last thing you want is to fail your test and waste all that money that you’ll have to pay back when you take it again.
