wooden beds

The wooden bed originated as a bedroom furniture that was part of a set or combined pieces for the bedroom. The wooden bed was originally a knotty pine material with the wood being shaped or turned with spindles for the headboard and footboard.

Over the years, the demand for mass-produced beds changed the manufacture of the once individually created wooden bed to encompass veneer finishes for beds, leaving the once adored wood and pine beds as part of the history. Newer bed styles have resulted in lighter and less bulky bedroom furniture.

Over the years, the desire for wooden beds reopened the bedroom furniture market back to the beloved solid and sturdy wooden beds. Wooden beds with matching nightstands replaced cheaper, lighter bedroom furniture and once again embraced the wooden bedroom furniture of the past.

The development of antique looking stained pine furniture became a consumer demand. The wooden beds with the spindles and the antique stain of warm colors were seen in the bedrooms of all the houses. Manufacturers saw the demand for wood beds and added solid panel engineered wood beds to their inventory and designs to expand consumer choice. This created a whole new generation of wooden beds.

Even with the new designs and developments of wooden beds, the traditional materials were still available and used for the making of the wooden beds. Rising material costs created prices for wooden beds that only the wealthy could afford, creating a new dilemma for beloved wooden beds and bedroom furniture.

The rising cost of wood caused the UK manufacturer to seek supplies from different countries, including Brazil and South Africa. The search predated metal and leather bedding materials from the Far East.

Cracking problems from undried imported timber located in centrally heated homes meant UK pine bed manufacturers were unable to compete with manufacturers using other dependent materials. Out of this problem was born the limited number of UK manufacturers who specialized in wooden beds.

The Far East became the source of the different types of wood for the beds. Due to slow import issues from New Zealand, manufacturers of wooden beds began to rely on the Far East for the import of wooden bedding materials. Currently, the solution to the importation of wood has been solved due to faster shipping from New Zealand and the importation of American oak wooden beds and other bedroom furniture.

BedSupermarket has the highest quality American white oak furniture with fewer knots and made from natural grain wood that has been given the highest quality waxed polished finish providing the look and durability of the past but at reasonable prices.
